Superior Hypogastric Nerve Block for Pain Control in Uterine Fibroid Embolization
Liisa L Bergmann, MD; Laurie M Vance, MD (Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Providence-Providence Park Hospital, Southfield, MI) and E Brooke Spencer, MD (RIA Endovascular, Greenwood Village, CO) presented this poster at the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) 40th Annual Scientific Meeting in Atlanta, GA in fall 2015.
The learning objectives are:
1) to describe the procedural steps in superior hypogastric nerve block (SHNB) in patients undergoing uterine fibroid embolization (UFE); and
2) to instill confidence regarding the details of the procedure.
The superior hypogastric nerve block can be easily achieved as a separate procedure accompanying UFE and conscious sedation, resulting in reduced pain, decreased narcotic administration and fewer hospital hours.
