Elizabeth Brooke Spencer, MD, FSIR

Education

Dr. Elizabeth Brooke Spencer earned her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College. She graduated from the University of Vermont, College of Medicine in 1995. Following an internship in General Surgery at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC, she completed her residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. She has the distinction of being a Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology (FSIR).

Dr. Spencer completed a fellowship in Interventional Radiology at Barnes Jewish Medical Center’s Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Washington University in St. Louis, MO.

Dr. Spencer performs a uterine fibroid embolization procedure in the hospital.

Dr. Spencer began her private practice in Arizona, where she developed a minimally invasive cancer program, started an outpatient vein center, and served as the Vice Chairman of the Radiology Department at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa. Dr. Spencer joined RIA Endovascular in 2009 and practices at several metro Denver hospitals. She is the medical director of the RIA Endovascular Center.

Dr. Spencer is a pioneer in the treatment of deep vein thrombosis and chronic venous occlusions. She has extensive experience in treating varicose veins and known nationwide for her work with chronic venous reconstruction.  She has been active in providing minimally invasive women’s interventions, including the treatment of uterine fibroids and pelvic venous disease.

Her other passion is cancer therapy, including both regional therapies using radioembolization and chemoembolization of the liver — selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT), as well as local therapies. Local therapies include radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation and microwave ablation of tumors. Treatment areas include the liver, lung, kidneys, adrenal glands and bone.

Lecturer and Author

Highly regarded for her clinical expertise, Dr. Spencer is a frequent guest speaker at medical meetings nationally and internationally. She is a member of numerous professional organizations, co-founding the Association of Women in Interventional Radiology. She has coauthored  several book chapters and medical journal articles.

Outside of the clinic and the hospitals, Dr. Spencer is an active sports enthusiast who can often be found running in Denver parks, biking or teeing up at a golf course.
