William Grande, MD, Vascular and Interventional Radiologist

How, when and why did you decide to pursue a career in medicine?

I decided to pursue a career in medicine in my senior year in college. I loved science and was on my way to pursuing a PhD in Chemistry. However, I found that I was not well-suited to the often solitary nature of laboratory research. At the same time, experience with medical illness in my immediate family, and witnessing the powerful impact that a caring, attentive, and involved physician can have on patients inspired me to pivot to a career in medicine.

What do you like most about your job?

Choosing just one thing is too hard! I like that as an interventional radiologist I am involved in treating many different disease processes rather than being limited to a single organ system or disease type. I like the clinical focus of interventional radiology, and being involved in patient care before and after – not just during a procedure. Finally, I love being in the IR suite and doing procedures. We have so many innovative and fun tools that we get to use to help our patients live happier, healthier lives.

What is your favorite way to spend free time (away from work)?

I enjoy being with my family outdoors – hiking, climbing, running, and skiing. I also like trying out the diverse culinary and musical experiences that Denver has to offer.

What do you like most about working at RIA?

I deeply appreciate getting to work in a group composed entirely of dedicated, smart, caring, and team focused diagnostic and interventional radiologists.
