Patient Stories: The Human Connection is What It’s All About

Before I even walked into the door at RIA Endovascular to have an epidural steroid injection, Jessica, the Registered Nurse, had already called me and made me feel comfortable. Upon arrival, the front desk receptionist greeted me with a smile and kind words. I waited for approximately 30 minutes (I arrived early), until Jessica came and took me back into a room. Jessica was friendly, personable and extremely compassionate, which eased my anxiety tremendously.

Mike, the IR tech, came to take me to the surgical room. He was probably one of the friendliest medical professionals I have ever met. He had a great big smile, a personal conversation with me, and again, made me feel comfortable.

After going into the surgical room, Mike continued a friendly conversation, even squatting to be at eye level with me, after I had already been placed on my stomach on the table.

Dr. Tyler Green came in, as well as Jessica. Mike assisted the doctor in getting things ready while Jessica and I had a friendly conversation. At one point the needle made me feel uncomfortable and Jessica squatted down to my eye level and was holding my hands and continuing a conversation, which lessened my anxiety.

After the procedure, Jessica and Mike stayed by my side until I could be released.

Before I left, Jessica took the time to wipe off the mascara that had rubbed off under my eyes.

If you, unfortunately, have to have a spinal procedure, I highly recommend RIA Endovascular in Greenwood Village.
