Highlighting Kidney Interventions

During Urology Awareness Month, we highlight the kidney interventions we provide. RIA Endovascular’s interventional radiologists provide a variety of kidney and urological treatments.

For those with renal and urological conditions, including dialysis catheters, nephrostomy tubes and ureteral stents.

Dialysis Catheters

For a patient whose kidneys have failed, venous access, or access to the blood system, must be established and maintained for dialysis treatments. Placement of a chronic dialysis catheter (CDC) can provide this access. The catheter is placed in one of the large veins. A common site is superior vena cava, or SVC. Nephrostomy Tubes

A nephrostomy is a tube put into the kidney. The urine from a normal kidney drains through a narrow tube, the ureter, into the bladder. When a stone or a blood clot blocks that tube, the kidney can be damaged. It may be possible to drain the urine by inserting a fine plastic tube, called a catheter, through the skin and into the kidney under a local anesthetic. Ureteral Stents
